The article presents basic information on the phenomenon of allelopathy and examples of its practical application in agriculture. Produced by plants or microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes) allelochemicals are also used for the manufacture of alleloherbicides and bioherbicides. These pesticides with increasing success are used for weed control in crops. In addition, some allelochemicals (bialafos, leptospermon) were used to produce synthetic active ingredients of herbicides (glufosinate, mesotrione).
