ABSTRACT
The development of organic food market in Poland is still at an early stage of development. Although the observed increasing demand for organic food has its share of total food sales remained at a low level. Hence, the primary objective of this study was to identify factors that may constitute barriers to purchase this food category. The quantitative studies revealed that non organic consumers perceive as the main barrier to buy the availability of organic food and information on its labeling and sales channels. The results of qualitative research among consumers of organic food indicate that they have a skeptical attitude to the control system in organic farming and organic food does not fully meet their expectations related to sensory qualities. These issues require further exploration in order to make recommendations in this regard for the various participants in the organic food market.
