Assesment of plant oils suitability for seed dressing in some crop species

ABSTRACT
Some plant oils were examined regarding their suitability for seed dressing. Seeds of radish (variety Lucynka), carrot (variety Nantejska), parsley (variety Cukrowa) and sugar beet (variety Kujawska) were treated with thyme oil (concentrations 3% and 9%), tea tree oil (30% and 60%) and cinnamon oil (10% and 25%). Untreated seeds and seeds treated with conventional mordant Funaben T were the control combinations. The influence of method of treatment on the percentage of emerged plants, speed and spread of field emergence were assessed. The number of plants and the yield during the harvest were also measured. Seed treatment with plant oils showed different influence on field emergence and yielding of different crops. Only cinnamon oil in concentration of 25% caused a significant decrease in field emergence and yield of all examined plant species.
