Field experiments to estmate yielding of sugar maize planted without nitrogen fertilization were conducted at the Agricultural University of Poznań in 1999-2001. It has been shown that increase in pre-sowing nitrogen dose from 30 to 60 kg N ha-1 resulted in significant yield increase in cobs, increase the percentage of 1st class cobs and their length, and the number of grains in a cob. The highest cobs yield was obtained after 60 kg N ha -1.
