Production and organic food market in Poland and Austria

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to present production and organic food market in Poland compared to production and the Austrian market. Selection of countries was targeted. Austria was selected because it is a country where for years the highest share of farms and organic farming area in the European Union has been recorded. Austria also introduced the first national regulations on organic farming and there is the largest organization of organic farmers. Also many effective promotional activities are undertaken through which public awareness and demand for organic food systematically increases. Market analysis was carried out between 2004-2008. It was found that during the considered period, both in Poland and Austria the number of organic farms and organic farming area augmented. Dynamic changes were very much higher in Poland than in Austria, which means that the sphere Supply side in the studied countries are at different stages of development. In Austria, doubled the share of organic food in the total turnover of food. The sales structure of organic foods differs.
